Contract Roasting Policy

1. Scope of Service

Our contract roasting service is provided for customers who supply their own green coffee beans or engage us to roast coffee on their behalf. Each batch is roasted according to the agreed roast level and profile, using professional commercial roasting equipment.

2. Natural Weight Loss During Roasting

Coffee beans naturally lose weight during the roasting process due to moisture evaporation and the release of volatile compounds. This weight loss is an inherent and unavoidable characteristic of coffee roasting. As a result, the final roasted weight will be lower than the green coffee input weight and may vary from batch to batch.

3. Roasted Weight Is Indicative Only

The final roasted weight is indicative only and cannot be guaranteed. Variations in roasted yield may occur due to factors including, but not limited to:

Bean origin, variety, and density
Initial moisture content
Roast level and development time
Roasting profile and equipment characteristics

Typical roasted coffee weight loss ranges between approximately 12% and 20%, depending on the roast level. This range is provided for reference only and does not form part of any guarantee.

4. Pricing and Yield Basis

For all contract roasting services, pricing, production planning, and yield calculations are based on the green coffee input weight, not the final roasted weight.

Any variation in roasted output weight resulting from the roasting process does not constitute a defect, service failure, or misrepresentation.

5. Consumer Law (New Zealand)

Where contract roasting services are supplied for business purposes, the parties agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply, to the extent permitted by law. Nothing in this policy is intended to limit any rights or remedies that cannot be excluded under the Fair Trading Act 1986 or other applicable New Zealand laws.

6. Acceptance of Policy

By placing an order or engaging our contract roasting services, customers acknowledge and accept this Contract Roasting Policy, including the natural and unavoidable weight loss associated with coffee roasting.
